THE CURRICULUM
A Kidscatchup franchise teaches Foundation Phase, Grade R to 3. The workbook is the lesson. A session is 45 minutes: flashcards, one workbook page, one printable, then the learner reads it back. Twice a week.
- Book reseller. Use the grade list to sell the right book. You do not run the lesson.
- Reseller and tutoring. Run the 45-minute session and print the teacher pack.
- Flagship centre. Four groups, Grade R, 1, 2 and 3, on the same plan.
Before a child starts, run the readiness check or the new learner assessment.
WHAT A PARENT PAYS
Kumon and Kip McGrath sell English and maths as two separate bills. A Kids Catchup lesson is 45 minutes, twice a week, and literacy and number are in the same lesson. One fee.
These are the recommended fees for a centre to open on. A centre can move them for its town. The check before the first lesson is free. There is no registration fee.
- Readiness, R690 a month. The child is not ready for the workbook yet. Cards, tracing and talk, twice a week, then the check again.
- Catch-up, R990 a month. Grade R to 3. Eight lessons. The workbook is the lesson. The parent buys the book once and the child keeps it.
- Two children, R1,690 a month. The same plan for a second child in the family.
Kumon publishes a fee per subject, set by each centre. In 2026 those pages show R660 in Chatsworth, R680 in Mokopane, R750 in Richards Bay, R900 in Ballito and Rondebosch, R965 in Johannesburg South, R990 in Brackenhurst, R1,030 in Chartwell, and R1,050 in Bryanston and Blairgowrie. Registration on those pages is R250 to R990 on top. Two subjects means two fees, and the child still has worksheets to do at home.
Kip McGrath publishes a recommended R325 for a 60-minute session, and says the price can vary by centre. English and maths are not taught in the same session. Four sessions of one subject come to R1,300. Both subjects come to about R2,600.
R990 is one Kids Catchup fee for both. It sits under a single Kip subject, and under two Kumon subjects. The child comes twice a week, which is more teaching than Kip’s usual one session, without a daily worksheet pile.
The book reseller sells the workbooks and does not run this lesson. Reseller and tutoring runs the lesson at these fees. A flagship centre runs four groups, Grade R, 1, 2 and 3, on the same fees. The starting figures above are unchanged: R150,000, R250,000 and R350,000.
An illustration, not a forecast: 40 children on the Catch-up fee is R39,600 a month before rent, wages and the books those families buy. Published directories put a Kumon centre start at R60,000 to R100,000. Kip McGrath directory listings have ranged from about R110,000 to about R315,000 depending on the year and the town. This page does not set a royalty or a territory. Ask for those in writing before you pay.
